Our Nucs (nucleus colony) are raised from start to finish here in middle Tennessee. Our 5 Deep frame nucs come with 3 frames of developing brood (eggs, larvae, and pupae) and two frames of food stores (honey and pollen) and a marked mated queen (Yellow for 2027).
All bees come from colonies that successfully overwintered in TN. The spring nucs are started in April with a grafted queen cell. After mating the new queens are assessed for performance, brood pattern, and marked. Queens will be laying around 5 weeks before being sold. All brood in the nuc will come from that queen. Spring nucs are typically available after late April and throughout May.

About our bees: We run Italian (Golden West/Randy Oliver) and Carniolan (Latschaw Apiary) lines in our operation. Each year we evaluate our colonies and select the best queen based on our desired traits (gentleness and efficient honey production) because we are primarily honey producers. Furthermore, we select breeder queens based on their hygienic traits, mite resistance, tendency not to swarm, and robust brood rearing.
2027 Spring nucs will be grafted from Golden West/ Randy Oliver queen mothers. If you wish to receive a Queen from our Carniolan stock, please add a note in your order, we will try our best to accommodate. All queens are open mated locally here in Middle TN.
Projected pickup will begin Saturday, April 24 , 2027, 7:30- 1.00 PM and will continue each weekend until all nuc orders are fulfilled.
At least one week in advance, you will receive an email and a text message with exact pick-up instructions. Please be on time.

Keeping two colonies is strongly recommended for new beekeepers. It lets you compare hive health, easily bolster a weak colony with resources from a stronger one, and avoid the challenges of troubleshooting a single hive—such as dealing with laying workers. With two colonies, you have a built-in backup and a far better learning experience, since you can use one to help resolve issues in the other, like queen problems, and observe what normal growth should look like.
